Oscars 1999: The Decline of Western Civilization (NY Rock)
Score: 81
The usual flattering exchanges between the stars and the endless windbag acceptance speeches did prevail through the final Oscar ceremony of the current millennium. More so, it was nearly worth all the root-canal-like torment to catch a current glimpse of the exquisite Sophia Loren and to see Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow in her lovely pink gown. Saturday night at North Six, Bush Tetras worked punk, rock, and gothic energy into songs that have managed to retain their intensity some 20 years later. Ladyfest East 2002 marked Bush Tetras' first live show in five years, and anyone who witnessed it will tell you the band burrowed itself into the crowd's collective joints. The best band closed out Ladyfest East 2002 on Sunday night at North Six to a sold-out crowd that included the ubiquitous Moby.
